Conbini box banzai !
by Gwenster on Jan.15, 2010, under Dribble
Coming home from a long hard day at the office I was pleasantly surprised by a certain box the mailman delivered.
I knew who it was from and what was in it and proceeded to strip the box of it’s protective tape to get to the goodies inside. And oh my ! What goodies we have here ! This you see is a “Conbini box” it’s a little project started by the author of Shibuya 246 ; a website you definitly have to bookmark if you love Tokyo. One of the featured series of articles there is the “Conbini monday” where the author Alan; a person who’s been living in Shibuya for the past 20 years trodds in a typical Tokyo convienance store with his camera to show us the wonderfull, crazy, fun and plain yummy experimental food you can get there.
As around any good site online; a strong-growing community of Japan-o-philes from all over the world formed. And before long the idea was offered up to start sending out packages of bliss to the community. So here it is !
If you want your own conbini box, I suggest becomming part of the Shibuya 246 community; as this will (if all things go allright) be a monthly (non-profit) event. Again; I cannot thank Alan enough for his time and patience with setting up the Conbini box project. Honto ni arigatou gozaimashita ! – OH. I’ll leave you guys with some more awesome pics. Had to do that before starting eating y`know :)

Enjoy your conbini box. due to my cuerrent financial situation cannot partake in such a grat thing tha Alan has done. Sure is nice to see the community growing like it is. for along time it seemed like it was me and him and a few random people posting replys. It would be nice if some of us could get together w/Shibuya and do a photo walk w/him. I think it would be a great outing, what do you think? I’ll be book marking your site for future commenting. I also have a twitter acct. @puffdragon01, feel free to send me a request to follow.
Well it’s late here in north Texas 11:40 PM.
See ya back at Shibuya 246

Congrats on the box arriving. Great feeling isn’t it when it arrives and you have to restrain yourself from ripping it open!! Mine is still sitting in the kitchen where I left it as I’m agonising over what to eat next!!

@Ash & Teksu : No ! You can’t has Rilakkuma ! He’s mine, all mine the precious is :) I bet Rilakkuma would sell like crazy in the Netherlands. Everybody who’s seen him RL wants to steal him from me :(
@Whipcracker: I hope your situation turns out for the better sooner than later, so that you too can enjoy the Conbini box. It’s quite the treat really ! It indeed looks like the Shibuya246 community is growing, with a few more steady commenters than several months ago and with his Twitter & Facebook followers massing as well.
I plan to be in Japan again in April and I’ll definitly ask Alan if he has time for some photowalks for the duration of my stay :) So you better hurry and join us someday :)- Oh. I’ve sent you a Twitter request. I’m “gwenster”
@Kyrsal : Shibuya246 is a lovely site and following Alan’s life trough his pictures is very exciting and charming :)
@Tristan: Thanks ! Yeah I know what you mean. I was _neatly_ cutting the tape away to avoid ripping the box in two and anything inside along with it haha.
My personal favorites so far are: Meltykiss, the wasabi/shrimp chips (tough dont stuff your mouth with them, eat slowly) , Calbee Jagariko (spelling?) Pizza chips (again dont eat too much at the same time) and those little sweets :)
